This film is a prequel to all of the The House of the Dead video games. Set on an island off the coast, a techno rave party attracts a diverse group of college coeds and a Coast Guard officer. In august me and some friends went on a trip to the mountains for the weekend and we brought with us this particular movie to watch it the same night. Me and the guys just love scary movies and we were exited to watch this one. During the movie i felt that no one was enjoying this but no one spoke till the end of the movie. Our first impression was oh my god? who's idea was that? is this really supposed to be scary? In brief our night was ruined by this clumsy boring movie that i wouldn't give this more then 1 star over 10 and u'll do the same when you watch but i don't recommend you because u'll be wasting your time…and get this , another movie was also made by the same director and its called alone in the dark and i also had the bad luck to watch it and its better than this one. So i just wanna say when you think a video game is cool , it doesn't really mean we have to watch the movie about the game…
This was probably the worst film I have ever seen, if you don't include B movies. I think however this one may end up below them for it's lack of imagination and it's insipid plot. It's shameless how bad the dialogue actually is, and the characters had as much personality as a firing range target. (I regress, the firing range targets would have done better acting.) And the logic of the film just doesn't exist. I like goofy movies for fun now and then, but goofy is different from "not-thought-out". The script writer should be ashamed of himself and the production company must have cried tears of bitter disappointment when they realized what they had made. I have only one more thing to say: If you must see this movie, find a way to see it for free.

In 2003, House of the Dead, the first video game adaptation of Uwe Boll, who has gotten himself a certain reputation in this area, was released. The film is a mundane zombie flick with a shallow plot and a tendency to be trash. Five years later, Lions Gate has released a Director's Cut version of the film on DVD. The film was made into a comedy with new music, alternative scenes, outtakes and several overlay-commentaries - which is the reason for the subtitle "Funny Version" on the DVD's front cover.
